Anyone who knows me well knows how much fun I think bento making is. I like variety in my food and so do my kids. I have a ton of options through Bento USA located right here in San Francisco. They have (in my opinion) the best selection of bento tools and fun accessories available anywhere. Their pricing is competitive, shipping is fair and their customer service is wonderful.
Bento USA (All Things For Sale) has graciously agreed to give away 1 two tiered panda bento box
Here’s what I did with my version.
I packed some leftovers from last night’s dinner. The base is quinoa, a gluten free “grain” (actually a seed) that is a complete protein with stir fried vegetables on top. I used the veggie cutters for my locally grown carrots for the eyes and nose, a red pepper for the mouth and sugar snap peas and shiitake mushrooms for the ears and top of his head. Not too complicated and only the simple vegetable cutters were used. I like them because it saves from peeling some veggies like cucumbers and carrots. Instead just slice and punch out.
I saved some of the raw carrot flowers from dinner to pack in with the fruit snack in the 2nd tier of the panda bento box.
Here’s the panda packed, banded and ready to go. It stores a lot of food in a small space. I included some dried cranberries in the small, green panda sauce container as well as some gomasio seasoning (sea salt mixed with sesame seeds) for sprinkling in the small panda container.
