Eat, Drink and Be Merry, Charlie Brown!

It’s time to blog hop with some of my bento loving friends this holiday season!  Please make sure to click the button at the bottom to hop to the next blog!

It’s been quite a while since I’ve been feeling super creative, but the Christmas season seems to spread its cheer throughout my home.  My little girls recently had their holiday performances so they’ve been belting out Christmas and Hanukkah songs, playing with our decorations and begging for fancy, fun lunches.  Here are a few I managed to sneak out this week.

Sprinkle Christmas tree in ELBOne of my girls had a WOWbutter (soy based nut-free butter) and jam sandwich with a couple of stars.  I spread more WOWbutter on the top and sprinkled it with little colored “ornaments”.  In the top of her Easy Lunchboxes container are mango pieces on the left and red seedless grapes on the top right.

Nativity ClementineI love to draw on clementines.  I threw this one in for a snack this past week with a simple nativity scene sketched on it.

Candy Cane lunch in ELBThese candy canes are made from Rudi’s Organic whole wheat bread.  Inside is Daiya brand dairy free strawberry cream cheese and jam, definitely a special treat.  On the top I spread more strawberry dairy-free cream cheese and fruit leather stripes.  I threw in some mini gingerbreads for good measure.  In the top, was the same fruit combination of fresh organic mangos and seedless red grapes in her Easy Lunchboxes container.

Charlie Brown Christmas Tree in ELBAs a kid, I always looked forward to the night when the Charlie Brown Christmas special was on TV.  This lunch is definitely more my nostalgia than my kids’, but they still love the fun.   In the top of the Easy Lunchboxes are kiwi slices and organic red raspberries.

Charlie Brown CloseupCharlie is a sandwich made from Rudi’s Organic whole wheat bread.  I hand cut the fruit leather for his face and clothing details.  The sad little tree is bread, rosemary for the branches, a grape tomato for the ornament and unsweetened shredded coconut flakes for a tad bit of fake snow.

For the next fantastic lunch, please hop on over to Keitha’s Chaos!  Thanks for stopping by and Happy Holidays to all!

Henri Matisse for a preschool lunch

For those just tuning in, I am covering a week of toddler art appreciation through my 3 year old’s eyes. She, like most kids, loves bright colors and enjoys imitating and trying to replicate things she sees. They are working on their own projects of the same artists. Start on Monday’s blog post to check Continue Reading

Jackson Pollock for art bento lunch

Jackson Pollock is what Miss A’s class is talking about today in art appreciation week.  I can’t think of a more perfect artist for toddlers to learn about an emulate.  There are no clean lines or precise patterns to Pollock’s art.  His paintings were drip paintings and splatters.  He was part of the abstract expressionist Continue Reading

Starry night, Van Gogh for lunch

In an attempt to create fun art lesson and not completely insult any amazingly talented deceased artists, I am packing art for toddler bento boxes this week.  I am doing my best to provide a simple interpretation with food.  Today in the 3 year old class, the students will create their own version of Van Continue Reading

Hummus wrap and Halloween fun

It’s finally cooling off here at night in Florida.  And by cooling off, I mean that it drops below 70 at night.  I grew up in the Midwest in Minnesota so I do have weeks where I really miss the cool weather, crunching of leaves under foot and the smell of fall in the air.   Continue Reading
